There are broadly two different types of travel crib (also called a travel cot, especially in the UK) – traditional travel cots or modern child and infant sleeping tents.

Traditional travel cots fold away and are easy to put up. When folded, they are bulky and heavy to carry. They are ideal as spare beds for babies but not very practical for traveling as they take up a lot of space in the car and are too heavy to carry for a great distance along with managing other luggage. The Babybjorn is probably the most portable in this style.

Alternatively, lightweight travel cots look like tents and are similar to erect, using traditional tent pole technology. Pop-up sleep bubbles are a less expensive option not discussed in this article.
