Finding budget accommodation in central London isn’t easy, as it is one of the world’s most expensive cities, but there are six cheap YHA youth hostels in or near to the centre of the city. These include hostels not only in Kensington and close to Oxford Street but also in Earls Court (handy for several of the main museums), near St. Paul’s Cathedral, close to St. Pancras (handy if you’re going to Paris on Eurostar), and one close to Regents Street and Regents Park. In addition, there is a seventh YHA hostel out in London Thameside and close to Docklands, which is less convenient for the city but it is a modern purpose-built hostel where all rooms are ensuite.
The six more central London YHA youth hostels are:
London Oxford Street
14 Noel Street, London W1F 8GJ. Tel: 0845 371 9133
You can’t get more central than Oxford Street, and this hostel is just one block south, and about a 5-minute walk from Oxford Circus underground station. It’s in the middle of Soho, with pubs and clubs on the doorstep, so not recommended for families or those seeking a quiet night’s sleep. It has 76 beds, mostly in twin rooms, but also some dorms with three or four beds sharing.
