Millions of people come to Our Nation's Capital every year for business, pleasure, or activism. Others relocate for jobs and school. Whatever your purpose, a good travel guide will help you make the most of your stay with maps, advice, and explanations to help you along your way. Most travel guides will give you information on all sights political, historical, and religious. They will describe local culture and recommend venues. However, the average travel guide will not tell you that there is a very large and active Catholic community in the DC area that has given rise to a regional subculture of faith-based gatherings.

Catholic Young Adults

Many young people move to Washington DC and it's surrounding areas specifically for fellowship with other young Catholics like themselves. The Arch-diocesan Young Adult Ministry (YAM) hosts Christ in the City, a weeknight for prayer and worship, and just across the border in Virgina one will find something similar called Catholic Underground. There is a charismatic praise and worship group called The Fresh Anointing (TFA) that meets at St. Anthony's Church in Brookland. There are a few bars that host Theology on Tap, a weeknight where believers can share a beer and hear presentations of Catholic interest. At the Catholic Information Center (CIC) two blocks from the White House, one will regularly find talks, retreats, classes, discussion groups, and happy-hours for young adults.
