It is a fact of life nowadays that if you want to compete, or hunt with your horse or pony, you have to travel, often a considerable distance. For most people, unless you are transporting a considerable number of animals, a trailer is the most suitable, rather than a lorry, as it means you do not have the expense of maintaining an additional vehicle.

This does not mean though that you can just hitch up a trailer that has been abandoned in the corner of the stable yard and head off. Each time you tow a trailer, it is important to make a few minor, quick and easy checks before you set off.
